Bogus Basin Engagements

The Story of Rylee, Riley, and Decklyn Jo.

Rylee Driscoll and husband Riley Thomas sit on a rock with trees in the background on Bogus Basin, in Boise, Idaho.

Idaho recently started opening back up after our Stay-in-place order and with that comes the ability to start photographing again! Thank goodness too because these two were itching to get their engagements done. As soon as we were able (and the weather allowed), we headed up to Bogus Basin for their Spring engagement session. Bogus makes a fantastic location for anyone looking for a mountain scene with trees for days! There are tons of trails with various views overlooking the hills and city. With Rylee and Riley's love of the outdoors, skiing, and snowboarding, Bogus seemed like the perfect location!

The skies were clear and the sun was setting! It was absolutely beautiful, even if it was still a bit chilly on the mountain. It was all worth it to photograph this adorable family in some magnificent light. I was a bit nervous before the session, thinking I'd feel out of practice, but as soon as they arrived, I knew it would be a magical session! This is definitely one of my favorite sessions to date so I hope you love it as much as I do! 💕

From Meeting to Married, as Told by Rylee

"My love is story is my absolute favorite, but who doesn’t say that? I knew of Riley, my husband, in high school. I was a freshman who spent most my time rehearsing in the auditorium for the next school production. While Riley on the other hand, was a senior, who spent most of his high school days out on Rocky Mountain High School's football field as the school's varsity quarterback. After Riley graduated he swore into the Marine Corps. He was then stationed in San Diego, California. The summer of 2015 he was sent home to work the Marine Corps booth at the Idaho State Fair. I was a senior in high school. My friends and I saw him standing at the booth and decided to try the flexed arm hang challenge, just to impress him. I broke the record that summer so I think that caught his attention.

After a year and a half of not seeing each other or talking, his name came up in casual conversation so I decided to add him on the good ole Instagram. He ended up messaging me saying he liked my name (we have the same name). We talked for awhile and then October of 2016 rolled around and my sister had her baby in San Diego. I flew down to meet my first nephew and texted him asking if he wanted to go out while I was in town. He said yes and picked me up from having dinner with my family. He came in and shook everyone’s hand and talked for a bit. After we left, he took me to the beach where we walked for MILES. We talked about everything under the sun and laughed the whole time. After our walk he took me to Balboa Park where we walked some more and danced to some music an older couple was playing next to us. As he was driving me back to my hotel, he sang Tennessee Whiskey by Chris Stapleton to me and I MELTED. To say the least it was a night I will never forget.

After this it was set in stone. Riley found out that December he would be leaving to be a Marine Security Guard over seas for 3 years. He asked me if I wanted to try the distance and without hesitation I said yes. In that 3 years he went from Africa to Iraq and then to China. He came home maybe once or twice every 9 months. We traveled Spain and had the time of our lives. Then in June of 2018 he took me back to San Diego where we danced that night in the park and we danced again to Tennessee Whiskey and asked me to marry him. I was in shock and I had no doubt in my mind that he was the one for me! I said yes! He left back to Iraq after the proposal and then in May of 2019 he came home for a couple weeks and then left to China and in the beginning of June 2019 I found out I was pregnant! We now have a house, a beautiful daughter, a crazy dog named Whiskey, and are so thankful for our lives together. We can’t wait to share our love with friends and family on our wedding August 22,2020 and with our amazing photographer!"

Time for a wardrobe change: a little more casual, but just as cute!

Little Decklyn Jo

On February 9th, 2020, Rylee and Riley brought a beautiful baby girl into this world and named her Decklyn Jo. Since a wedding is all about creating a family, it was important to all of us to include their daughter in this session. DJ was such a cutie in her pink sweater and was always smiling for mommy and daddy. Rylee's best friend, Bryce, even did his man of honor duties by watching DJ when it was time for just mom and dad's portraits! She is one loved little lady and I'm so excited to see how much she grows over these next few months!!

Thank you Rylee and Riley for letting me into your lives and trusting me to capture your big day! You two are a blast and I cannot wait for your wedding in August! 😊
