7 Tips for Looking Your Best on Your Wedding Day

On your wedding day, all eyes will be on you! Whether you're used to being in the spot light or not, you'll want to guarantee you look and feel your best. As a photographer and not an esthetician, I'm not terribly versed in the world of bridal beauty. However, I had the fantastic opportunity to chat with Helena Garrett, CEO of The Lash Fairy Lounge, about what you can do to ensure you're at the top of your game. Helena mentioned that while your hair and makeup artist will enhance your beauty and create the perfect style for you, there are a few things you can do to help prepare for your appointment. From skin care to spray tans, make sure to check out the list below for 7 tips for looking your best on your wedding day! 🙌

1. Make Sure Your Skin Is Exfoliated and Hydrated

Makeup lays better over exfoliated and hydrated skin, so in the months leading up to your wedding, implement a basic skincare routine. If you’re starting a new skincare regimen, start at least 6 weeks before the big day; don’t leave it to the last minute! Your skin cells take anywhere between 4 to 6 weeks to completely replace themselves, so it will take at least that long to see results.

2. Consider Double Cleansing

Consider double cleansing with a balm or cleansing oil. You want options that fully break down makeup and sunscreen without over stripping your skin’s moisture barrier and throwing off its pH balance. Although you shouldn't do it every night, exfoliating and applying a simple, non-fragrant hydrating product a few times a week should vastly improve your skincare. Good Molecules, First Aid Beauty, and The Ordinary have reliable gentle, chemical exfoliants that most people can tolerate!

3. Be Careful With New Beauty Products and Treatments

Don’t try any new products or drastic facial treatments (like peels or retinol) the week before your wedding! You don’t want to have a surprise reaction on your big day. If you have frustrating skin conditions, start seeing an esthetician or dermatologist a few months before your wedding. However, if you have a trusted gentle exfoliant that you know doesn’t irritate your skin, use it plus a hydrating night cream the night before.

4. Use a Lip Mask Treatment

Get a lip mask treatment and start using it every night for a week before your wedding. Your lips will look soft and plump! Not to mention, your lipstick will apply smoother and wear better through the festivities. We highly recommend Laneige's Lip Sleeping Mask! It deeply hydrates and gently exfoliates overnight.

5. Finalize Your Spray Tan Before Your Wedding Day

If you're thinking about a spray tan, make sure to see a professional! Find someone who can customize your color to suit your natural skin tone. Remember to do a trial run 2 to 4 weeks before your wedding so that you can perfect the color and see what it looks like with your dress. Schedule your final spray tan about two days before your wedding; this should give you enough time to retouch any areas if needed and still ensure you glow on your big day!

6. Don't Make Any Last Minute Decisions About Your Hair

While it can be easy to second guess your hair style or want to change things up, it's best not to make any bold decisions too close to your wedding. Any changes you're considering should be done before your trial run so that you don't surprise your hair stylist and so that you can make sure you love it! Finally, remember to wash your hair the night before your big day instead of that morning. Your hair will shine brighter and be easier to style! 🤩

7. Always Do a Trial Run

Whether it's your spray tan or hair and makeup, always schedule a trial run! A trial run is a great opportunity to go through the process and iron out any potential issues along the way. Perhaps the spray tan isn't quite your shade or the makeup style you thought you'd love doesn't feel like you. With a trial run, you can take the time to create your perfect look and make sure that you're pleased with your choice in esthetician! Plus you guarantee that you'll love your look and you won't have to worry about it on your wedding day. Win/win!

As someone getting married, the most important thing is that you feel comfortable and confident. These beauty tips are meant to help you feel like the best version of yourself, not a different version. The application of your makeup will certainly appreciate a skin care regime! However, even if you're not planning on a spray tan or professional makeup, you can still benefit from hydration, exfoliation, and cleansing. Spending a little extra time on self health and care leading up to your wedding will leave you feeling rejuvenated and ready to say I do!

Thank you again to The Lash Fairy Lounge for your help in providing these wonderful tips. If you have any other beauty tips or recommended products, feel free to drop them in the comments! I'd love to hear what works for you! 😊

Cheering for you,

Helping you feel comfortable and confident
