How to Say Yes to the Dress
7 Tips for Wedding Dress Shopping
As a bride, your dress will be a highlight of your wedding! It will be the main piece making up your gorgeous look while showing off your personality to your friends and family. It's important that you love your dress, almost as much as your partner! 😉 Just like the journey of meeting your significant other, finding your perfect dress may be easy or it may take a few tries to get it right. Even if you've been dreaming of the ideal gown for years, the actual process of picking your dress can be stressful. There's a ton of pressure to find the one and if you're anything like me, choosing one dress to represent you on one of your most important days can seem quite daunting. How do you know what's right and where do you start?
That's exactly what I asked myself when I had the opportunity to pick out my own wedding dress this summer! To be honest, I didn't research as many bridal shops as I probably should have before going with Boise's Best Bridal Boutique. This could have been wasted effort if I ended up not liking their dresses, but luckily for me, I loved them and my B.B. Bridal experience! 🥰 To ensure you have your own wonderful experience, here are B.B. Bridal's top tips to help you prepare for your shopping experience!

1. If Possible, Start Dress Shopping 9+ Months Before Your Wedding
It takes 4-5 months for B.B. Bridal to receive your gown. From there, you need to consider any necessary alterations, which generally take 45-60 days. Choosing your gown early allows you to avoid having any last minute issues, while ensuring any remaining wedding planning will complement your dress! 🙌
2. Consider Who You Bring With You to Your Appointment
Bring your cheerleaders! There are those that will lift you up and those that will bring you down. You may have that one friend or family member that is good at being brutally honest, but sometimes opinions like these can be too strong when trying to find your dream dress. Bring a few of your favorite people, those who truly know you and have your best interest in mind. Also, keep in mind that too many opinions can be extremely overwhelming.
3. Make Sure to Research Bridal Shops in Your Area
This is super important! While most shops carry a variety of gowns, they tend lean towards certain styles. Call your local shops, check out their social media, and ask questions. Make sure the shop carries dress styles that you like and more importantly, that are in your price range!
4. Trust Your Bridal Stylist
If you have researched your bridal shop, trust that you are in good hands. Remember your bridal stylist is a professional and is always available to make suggestions. 8 out of 10 times a bride will choose a dress they didn’t expect to pick and that's absolutely fine!
5. Be Open Minded
You may have made a whole Pinterest board full of dresses that you love! However, remember to be open minded while actually trying on dresses. You may find yourself liking styles that are the complete opposite of those in your Pinterest board. It's okay; This is normal!
6. Don't Be Shocked at the Size
Bridal sizing is different than street sizing! Your wedding dress will usually run 2-3 sizes larger than your regular clothes.
7. Be Ready to Find the One
Before scheduling an appointment to try on wedding dresses, make sure you are ready to find the one. B.B. Bridal's stylists are are committed to giving you a memorable dress shopping experience (not just selling you a gown). They will blow your mind with expertise and show you beautiful gowns. They will be your coach when you get stuck between two gowns or find yourself needing a shoulder to cry on when you realize "things just got real; I’m getting married!" In other words, make sure you never have to walk away from your dream gown because you weren't prepared to find it. From the beginning of your shopping experience, expect that you just might say yes to the dress! PS, if you do find the one, have someone record your stylist bustling your dress so that you know how to do it later.
I hope these tips give you a good place to start your journey! While saying yes to the dress tips can help make your experience better, here are a few bonus tips to prepare you in the weeks leading up to your big day. 👏 Make sure to reduce your sodium intake to avoid feeling and looking bloated! Buy seamless underwear and avoid wearing a bra the day of your wedding, especially if you have a strapless dress. Your photographer will love not having to remove marks from your shoulders and dress! Finally, apply some baby powder or deodorant to your inner thighs to prevent chaffing and sweating. Wedding dresses can be thicker and heavier than you realize, so it's good to be prepared!
